Last verified: September 25, 2026, confirmed on support.apple.com: macOS natively offers "L2TP over IPSec" under System Settings > Network > Add VPN Configuration.

Fast method (.mobileconfig profile)

1. Download the profile: Download the L2TP profile (.mobileconfig)
2. Open the file; macOS opens System Settings > Privacy & Security > Profiles.
3. Install the profile. It contains an entry for every server: Romania 1 (buc-1.rotunneling.net) and Romania 2 (buc-2.rotunneling.net).
4. When connecting from Network settings, enter your RoTunneling username and password.

Manual method

1. System Settings > Network > + (Add) > VPN > L2TP over IPSec.
2. Server address: buc-1.rotunneling.net (Romania 1) or buc-2.rotunneling.net (Romania 2).
3. Account name: your account username.
4. Authentication Settings: Password = account password; Shared secret = vpn.
5. Save and connect.

Troubleshooting

• "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond": verify the shared secret (vpn) and that IPsec isn't blocked by a local or network firewall.
